Altophobia And Azure Skies....

BETWEEN THEM
Part 6

She had always been scared of heights....

She sat down in the wood recliner and took a sip of her coffee.... Hmm.... She was addicted to caffeine.... not that it mattered.... It helped keep her migraines in check....

The view from her terrace was awesome.... She was going to love staying here....

The skies looked beautiful.... the evening blue was spreading over the afternoon yellows and soon black would be setting in.....

She loved black...

People thought that she was a weird character... even while she was a kid.... she liked black.... her favorite number was 13.... she loved mystery stories.... thrillers.... the only kind of movies she watched were horror ..... she hated anything mushy in films.... including dialogues... wrote sad and philosophical poems.... and enjoyed hot spicy food while every other kid her age was behind things sweet....

And she was strangely unattracted to the opposite sex....

Except to......

She smiled at that...... People were foolish.... They took everything, including humans at face value....

The coffee was over.... She set the empty cup down....

She made fine coffee .... but nothing as great as her mother made for her..... the brew was just right.... the sugar level just low enough.... the aroma strong and heady enough to make her enjoy the drink.....

Again she felt alone..... Away from her home.... Away from her parents....

All alone in this new city......

Maybe the case will get over sooner than she hoped it to.....

It was all in her hands..... Rather in her mind and words.....

She loved her profession... It gave her a great pride to don on the black lawyer suit and get into the arena... to argue and fight out ..... to get onto the winning side and keep going smooth from there.....

The black suit had been a cause to her having chosen law as her career.... She grinned.... Her way of getting back at weirdos who thought her weird!

And the real reason had been that, from childhood she had had an uncanny knack for arguing with people, reasoning out and winning for her cause..... Somehow she had been always attracted to law even before she realized that it was her calling.....

And her family had been very supportive.... She belonged to what she called the middle middle class.... neither poor nor rich enough... Struggles to make ends meet.... meagre means....
Yet, she was given great education and great values..... They stood by her..... Through it all

She got up and went to the parapet wall..... And looked down the twenty floors of the apartment in which she stayed.....
Her clients had provided it..... She was lucky to be a part of one of the best law firms in the country......

She felt the same uneasiness as always.... So she looked up at the skies and smiled at the black hue that was heralding the night in..... and her dreams......
