Part 22

He was silent as he sat before the television.... A documentary film... something on child development and bringing up....

He muted it... And leaned back....

Shriya....

Her name was beautiful.... to him....
So was she... in every way...

And still somewhere within him, he loved playing with her.... teasing her.... as he had always done...
Without speaking a single word to her.....

Krish used to be very amused by her reactions to him sometimes....


Even at school when she thought he had never noticed.... And he knew all along what she was thinking....

She was like an open book... but only he could understand her....

When they stood beside each other in assembly at school.... With her struggling to move away in that constricted space.... Looking as decently petrified as she could... and trying to conceal it

Watching her walk down the stairs steady and in control until she saw him.... Her almost slipping sometimes.... catching the guard rails the other times....

Knowing she was watching him in between classes.... And looking up at her suddenly... Shocking her and embarrassing her.....

Smiling a weird smile at her when he was sure that no one other than her noticed...

Teasing her by showing interest in every other girl there.... Stopping by everyone else in the class and wishing them, greeting them, speaking with them....

And when it came to her.... He always kept a straight face and moved on.....

And till some years ago he never knew why he was playing with her..... He did it because he felt the urge to do so.....

And then he realized he loved her.... beyond bounds.... beyond words that could ever describe what he was feeling for her......


Like that day he had met her in the get together..... He was actually thankful she had left....
The tension between them had been so huge that he was sure that had she stayed back a little while longer.... He could have taken her in his arms.....

And she was now here.... in Bangalore.... With her telephone number well within reach...

And yet why wasn't he trying to reach her?!
